  • Stingers raise $3,465 for Willmar Area Food Shelf

    WILLMAR, MN- The Willmar Stingers of the Northwoods League and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans presented a check totaling $3,465 to the Willmar Area Food Shelf on Friday, August 27.  The Stingers and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans partnered to bring “Shirts off our Backs Night” to the ballpark on Monday, August 9th.  The promotion gave fans an opportunity to bid on the players jerseys with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Willmar Area Food Shelf.  A total of three coaches and thirty players’ uniforms were bid on and awarded to fans that evening.

    WILLMAR, MN- The Willmar Stingers are excited to announce that Perfect Game USA named the Stingers one of the top summer collegiate teams for the 2010 season.  Perfect Game USA compiles a weekly ranking of the top 30 summer collegiate league teams and recently released their final rankings.

    Under an overcast sky in early June, the Willmar Stingers embarked upon their inaugural season in front of a fervent crowd, eager to support their new baseball team.  Hall of Fame and World Series MVP Paul Molitor threw out the ceremonial first pitch, but not before saluting the crowd and acknowledging the host families of the team.

Stingers Win Finale 10-7

THUNDER BAY--In the finale of what has been a magical inaugural season, the Willmar Stingers ended their year on a high note with a come from behind, eleven inning, 10-7 win over the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Port Arthur Stadium on Monday night. With the victory, the Stingers end their initial season of Northwoods League play eight games over .500 with a 39-31 record.

Cats Play Spoiler, Beat Stingers 7-3

THUNDER BAY--For the second straight day, the Stingers offense couldn't solve the Border Cats pitching staff, dropping a 7-3 contest on Sunday at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay. The loss, when combined with the St. Cloud River Bats' 10-8 win over the Rochester Honkers earlier Sunday afternoon formally ends the Stingers playoff chances in their inaugural season.

Stingers Drop Series Opener in Thunder Bay 2-1

THUNDER BAY--In the first game of a three game set with the Thunder Bay Border Cats, the Stingers offense faltered in a 2-1 loss on Saturday night at Port Arthur Stadium. Willmar managed just five hits in the ballgame and wasted a brilliant start from Northwestern righty Michael Jahns, who went five innings, allowing just two runs on five hits, striking out a season high seven Border Cats along the way.
